There are rules but it's subjective too!
The main psychological aspects of colour often seems more emotional and personal than scientific, and therefore determining reactions to colour is sometimes difficult.
I often get asked to advise on colour, colour matching and combining colours. It’s all subjective of course, but there are some keys points to think about which I’ll cover here.
Tradition, religion and superstition play a large part in how people respond to certain colours. Check out this graphic that demonstrates what emotions are generally associated with colour.
When choosing colour schemes, you should be conscious of the psychological associations with colour by people. It should not, however, be the overriding factor in the choice of colour.
